Catfish anglers from several states will travel to Lake Ray Hubbard and Garland, TX for a King Kat Tournament Trail event presented by Bass Pro Shops Cabela’s. Local and traveling anglers will be vying for cash, prizes, and an opportunity to compete at the 2020 King Kat Classic which will feature a guaranteed payout of $120,000 in cash and prizes.

Anglers fishing the February 14-15, 2020 Super Event will be testing their catfishing skills against other anglers and whatever Mother Nature has in store. This popular lake sports a surface area of 21,671 acres. Its major tributary is the East Fork of the Trinity River. It was impounded in 1968.

Blue cats are among the most abundant sportfishes in the lake, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife. They rate the catchability as excellent. Local anglers advise that the area above Interstate 30 contains a good amount of standing timber, the kind of structure that the big cats like. There is also a heated discharge area on the west side south of I30.

Lake Ray Hubbard is one of the largest lakes in North Texas, so a little prefishing would be useful. Use sonar to find and map out the many points, humps, and other structures and that exist in the lake. The entire lake is legal waters for the tournament and drifting cut panfish or shad is a popular method for catching blues.
